Journal of Anti-Corruption Law: Announcements https://epubs.ac.za/index.php/jacl
Corruption is a major problem in all parts of the world and its calamitous effects are well documented. Governments, inter-governmental organisations and civil society have put in place, and continue to put in place, measures at national, sub-regional, regional and international levels to prevent and combat corruption. Closely related to corruption are other economic crimes such as money-laundering, racketeering and fraud. Corruption and its allied crimes need to be confronted on all fronts. Their causes, constitution and consequences need to be researched, comprehended and analysed with a view to fighting and, ultimately, eradicating them.

(This journal migrated to Open Journal Systems in 2023)
en-US Fri, 28 Jul 2023 13:03:34 +0000 OJS 3.3.0.13 http://blogs.law.harvard.edu/tech/rss 60 Call for Papers (Conference Notice) https://epubs.ac.za/index.php/jacl/announcement/view/4
Background
In the 21st century, the proliferation of economic crime globally cannot be gainsaid anywhere. Crimes such as corruption, money laundering, cyber-crime and human trafficking are becoming rifer daily. The commonality amongst these crimes is that the perpetrators are employing more sophisticated methods and means in contemporary times. Colloquially, researchers, academics, practitioners, criminologists and various role players in the private and public sector are therefore broaching the need to understand the phenomenon of organised crime better. The need arises due to the unprecedented inroads which such crimes are making on the most fundamental rights of all people and the often-elusive success in dealing with, investigating, prosecuting, and combating such crimes. The Department of Criminal Justice and Procedure in collaboration with the Journal of Anti-Corruption Law (JACL), therefore, invite academics, researchers, students, lawyers, individuals, government officials and representatives of international and continental organs, and non-governmental organisations to attend and participate in a hybrid conference entitled Corruption and Combating Organised Crime. We call especially on persons who are interested in presenting papers on the following broad range of themes. Note that the themes are not exhaustive, and the editors may be contacted directly to discuss the relevance of any proposed topic which at first glance do not appear to be in line with the following:

• The importance of prosecuting organized crime; the role of the state, the police and civil society in this regard;
• The impact of organized crime on fundamental rights, especially in respect of vulnerable persons.
• Models for the protection of whistle blowers and witnesses; challenges and success in this regard;
• The intersection between organized crime and other crimes.
• Historical and contemporary perspectives regarding the emergence of and flourishing of organized crime around the world.

Abstracts
The organisers invite abstracts (of no more than 500 words) for papers to be presented at
the conference.
